All divas must travel!  How else can we brag of being fabulous jetsetters and well-traveled goddesses?  Of course, although we’d always like to travel first class or business, sometimes it is absolutely necessary to experience real life and mingle with other fabulous people, who just happen to be traveling light…or shall I say it?… … co…ughhh…coach.

Top 10 Do’s and Don’ts

  1. When shopping around for airfares, ask your friends about the latest websites, discount travel perks, mile reward accounts or even corporate accounts you could have access to or barter for.  If you are flexible with dates and times, the airlines will be nicer about discounted airfares.  Different airports around your city or destination may be worth looking into.
  2. Check in advance to see which available flights are less crowded.  A half-full flight means you can request a full row for yourself!
  3. Packing for airplanes these days can be very daunting.  Your carry-on should be light.  Divas must protect their backs and posture at all times since we will need it for restless nights of fun at our destination of choice.
  4. New rules indicate we must have a light carry-on and a personal item, and each luggage sent through cargo will cost an additional $25.  Well, this diva’s done her homework.  I’ve heard, from very good sources, that since this is a newly implemented rule (due to increasingly high gas prices), a diva might just take her cargo suitcase up to the gate and wait to be last in line.  When told the suitcase does not fit, an airline staff member will simply send it down to cargo and not charge the extra cost, since it is to our inconvenience.  This little trick will only work if you know how to pack light and keep all your make up in the designated designer plastic baggies to get the bag through security.  For divas in a hurry, any zip-lock baggie will do.
  5. When checking in at the gate make sure to confirm where you are seated in reference to the TV or if the row is still empty.  You can make arrangements to take the exit row for more legroom, or the bulkhead seats if you are extra nice to the attendant.
  6. A smile might get you an upgrade!  It never hurts to ask!
  7. Ask for extra blankets and pillows right away after you sit down, before they run out.  Go comfortable, yet classic.  Wear just enough make up to look good, and not overdone.  Right before landing, spray water lightly across your face to freshen up and look like you’ve just woken up from a nap.  Always check your mirror after you’ve slept a wink.
  8. Have fun, especially on a long flight.  Do not count on the in-flight movie to entertain you.  The film might be a flop if the channel cannot be flipped, and then… what is a diva to do for the rest of the flight?  Bring your own magazines or girlie books which you needed an excuse to read.
  9. If you don’t absolutely love airplane food, remember to pack your own gourmet goodies, with enough to share if you happen to be a lucky diva and end up seated next to a cutie. No onions and no mess allowed!
  10. Never ever have the coffee.  For some odd reason, coffee does not brew properly at high altitudes and it is a diuretic.  Always drink plenty of water and hydrate.  It’ll keep a diva’s skin looking radiant by landing time.
