Winner of BEST INTERNATIONAL PICTURE at New York International Latino Film Festival, HABANA EVA, directed by Fina Torres to hold its West Coast Premiere at the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival

Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival presents “Habana Eva”, a film by Director Fina Torres (“Oriana”, and “Woman on Top” with Penelope Cruz), this Saturday August 21^st at 7:20 pm, in the heart of Hollywood, at Mann Chinese 6 Cinemas at the Hollywood and Highland Center. Winner of the Best International Picture Award at the New York International Latino Film Festival this July, “Habana Eva” continues a successful festival run now at LALIFF.  Media expected for the Opening Gala on August 19th, as well as Habana Eva’s film screening on August 21st.  Red Carpet and Media Lounge provided starting at 6pm.  General tickets are $12 and can be purchased online, or at the box office.  Mann Chinese 6 Cinemas is located at 6801 Hollywood Boulevard Hollywood, CA.

“Habana Eva” takes place in a Havana shaken by Fidel’s retirement when winds of hope are blowing over the island. Eva, a young seamstress, confined in a despotic and monochromatic clothing factory that makes only one style of dress, dreams of designing beautiful clothes.  With no help from her Cuban boyfriend, who is slow at work, but too fast in bed, her life takes a turn when she meets a dazzling ex-patriot, who fans her hopes but breaks her heart. She leaves home, quits her job and gives herself to the street, to friendship, to hope, and most of all, to her passion of designing fashion. With this simple story Fina Torres weaves a delicious film and powerful metaphor of today’s Cuba.
